DEPUTY
MANAGER
Deputy Manager
Children’s Residential Home (Therapeutic EBD)
Location: Castleford, West Yorkshire
Salary: £38,712.18pa
This is a new 2 bed therapeutic children’s home in Castleford, supporting young people who have lived through significant trauma and who need adults who are consistent, thoughtful and emotionally present. The Registered Manager is already in post. Your job is to be their right hand, help shape the culture in the home and make sure the team feel supported to do their best work.
The provider is medium sized and growing and investing in high quality, therapeutic residential care for children aged roughly 8 to 18, with a strong focus on emotional development, relationships and helping young people make sense of their experiences. Staff wellbeing, good supervision and ongoing training are part of the offer.
What you will be doing
You will be a visible, approachable Deputy Manager who leads from the front and keeps things joined up:
Supporting the Registered Manager with the day to day running of a 2 bed therapeutic EBD home.
Providing clear direction to the staff team, including leading shifts, debriefs and handovers.
Co managing house budgets and resources so the home runs smoothly and efficiently.
Overseeing placement plans, risk assessments and behaviour support plans so they stay live and meaningful.
Embedding positive, therapeutic parenting approaches in everyday practice.
Coaching and developing staff, picking up supervision, mentoring and day to day feedback.
Building strong working relationships with social workers, schools and other professionals.
Taking part in the on call rota and being a reliable point of support for the team.
You will be working with young people with emotional and behavioural needs who may have experienced multiple moves, loss and trauma. Experience in this area is a big advantage and will be taken seriously at shortlisting.
What you bring
To be shortlisted you will need:
At least 2 years experience managing or supervising a team in a children’s residential setting.
A recognised qualification, for example: Level 3 Residential Childcare or equivalent, or Level 3 Children and Young People’s Workforce, or Level 4 Children, Young People and Families Practitioner Residential, or higher in a relevant area.
Proven experience working with children and young people with EBD or similar needs.
Confidence with placement plans, risk assessments and staff development.
Strong safeguarding practice and a clear understanding of Ofsted expectations in children’s homes.
A full UK manual driving licence.
Most of all, you bring a steady approach to leadership, a reflective mindset and a genuine interest in therapeutic work, not just compliance.
Why this provider
You would be joining a provider that:
Offers therapeutic placements for young people facing emotional and behavioural challenges, with genuine emphasis on relationships and consistent care.
Invests in its teams through structured training, development and clinical input, so staff are not left to carry complex work on their own.
Provides competitive benefits such as life assurance, private medical support in some roles, retail and lifestyle discounts and opportunities for progression as new homes open.
Prioritises a supportive work culture where supervision, reflective discussion and staff wellbeing are part of the weekly routine, not just something written in a policy.
For a Deputy Manager who wants to grow into a Registered Manager role, this is a strong platform. You will be close to decision makers, involved in shaping the home and trusted with real responsibility as the service develops.
Rota and working pattern
Your working week will cover Monday to Sunday and typically include:
Three shifts of office style hours: 9:00am to 5:00pm.
One 24 hour shift: 8:00am to 11:00pm including sleep, followed by a handover 8:00am to 8:30am the next day.
This pattern gives you a mix of time in the home, time with the team and time to focus on planning, paperwork and professional discussions.
