DEPUTY

MANAGER

Deputy Manager, Therapeutic Children’s Home, Rotherham, South Yorkshire

The role at a glance

  • Deputy Manager in a small therapeutic children’s home in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, supporting young people with emotional and behavioural needs

  • Base salary of £33,800 to £35,360 a year, plus £60 per sleep-in, and with around ten sleep-ins a month your realistic annual earnings land somewhere between £41,000 and £42,560

  • On-call paid on top at £15 each time, so the extra responsibility you carry is recognised properly

  • A 2 on 4 off shift pattern, which gives you four full days at home after every two days in the home, and to be honest that kind of balance makes a huge difference over the long run in residential childcare

  • A home rated Good by Ofsted at its very first full inspection, so you are joining a service with strong foundations and a clear sense of where it is heading

Why this Deputy Manager role stands out

  • Plenty of Deputy Manager jobs on Indeed mention progression, and what makes this one different is that you can see the growth happening, with a group that has three children’s homes open now, around six expected by the end of this year and plans for something like ten by the end of 2027

  • That growth means Registered Manager and operations roles are being created as the group expands, so a confident Deputy here could potentially be leading their own home within a realistic timeframe

  • The whole approach is therapeutic, to the point where the care team are known as Therapeutic Ambassadors, which tells you a lot about how the young people are seen and how much the relationships with them are valued

  • The home is small and personal, so you will get to know each young person properly and see the difference your leadership makes to their week, their schooling and their confidence

  • The directors are close to the work and easy to reach, which means decisions get made quickly, good ideas get picked up, and you will have a real say in how the home develops

  • Joining a Good rated home this early in its journey is maybe the most rewarding point to step in as a Deputy, because you get to shape the culture, the team and the practice while everything is still being built

What your days will look like

  • Working alongside the Registered Manager as their right hand, sharing the leadership of the children’s home and keeping things running well for the young people and the staff team

  • Leading shifts on the floor, modelling trauma-informed and therapeutic practice, and building trusting relationships with young people who have lived through difficult experiences

  • Helping to write, review and bring to life individual care plans and risk assessments that support emotional wellbeing, education, health and independence skills

  • Supporting young people with everyday life skills, from cooking and budgeting through to school attendance, homework and preparing for their first job

  • Running supervisions, mentoring newer residential support workers and spotting training needs early so the whole team keeps growing in confidence and skill

  • Overseeing medication, health and safety checks and daily records so the home stays organised, compliant and ready to show Ofsted the great work going on

  • Working closely with social workers, schools, CAMHS, independent reviewing officers and families so everyone around each young person is pulling in the same direction

  • Completing sleep-ins as part of the 2 on 4 off pattern, paid at £60 per night, and sharing on-call with the management team, paid at £15 each time

What you will bring

  • Experience working in a children’s residential home, ideally already as a Senior Residential Support Worker, Team Leader or Deputy Manager and ready to take on more leadership

  • Confidence supporting young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs, with the warmth and patience that helps them feel safe enough to trust you

  • A good understanding of the Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards, along with experience of care planning, risk assessment and preparing for Ofsted inspections

  • Experience supervising staff and leading shifts in a way that brings the team with you and keeps morale high

  • Solid knowledge of medication administration, safeguarding, health and safety and emergency procedures

  • A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent would be a real plus, along with an interest in working toward your Level 5 in Leadership and Management as you grow toward a Registered Manager role

  • A sense of humour, plenty of resilience and a genuine belief that every young person deserves someone in their corner

What is on offer

  • Base salary of £33,800 to £35,360 per year

  • £60 per sleep-in, averaging around ten a month, bringing realistic earnings to £41,000 to £42,560

  • £15 per on-call on top of your salary

  • A 2 on 4 off working pattern with four full days off after every block

  • Clear progression toward Registered Manager and operations roles as the group continues to open new homes across Yorkshire and beyond

  • Company pension, free meals while you are on shift and free on-site parking
