Waking Nights Residential Support Worker
Home: Children’s Home – Learning Disabilities & Autism
Location: Wolverhampton (WV10)
Pay: £13 to £14 per hour (DOE) Approx. £24,840 to £26,754 per year
Rota: 3 on / 3 off 8:45pm–7:15am
Type: Permanent waking nights
This is a dedicated waking nights position in a small, well-run children’s home supporting young people with learning disabilities and autism. The service is rated Good and has been built around long-term placements, consistent routines, and a team structure that actually works.
The home and how nights work
There is a clear handover from day staff and clear expectations during the night. You are supported by solid systems, good communication, and managers who understand that night work requires skill, awareness, and trust.
The focus overnight is wellbeing, reassurance, safety, and preparation for the day ahead.
The role
As a Waking Nights Residential Support Worker, you’ll be responsible for:
Supporting young people throughout the night in line with their individual needs
Responding to overnight support needs with patience and confidence
Providing personal care respectfully and at the young person’s pace
Maintaining a safe, organised home environment
Completing accurate night-time records and handovers
Working closely with the day team to ensure continuity of care
This role suits someone who is attentive, thoughtful, and comfortable working independently while staying connected to the wider team.
What you’ll bring
Experience supporting children or young people with learning disabilities or autism
Confidence working waking nights in a residential setting
Strong communication skills, including written recording
A respectful approach to personal care and individual needs
Level 3 in Residential Childcare or CYPW, or currently working towards it
A reliable, professional approach and good judgement
Pay, rota and benefits
£13 to £14 per hour depending on experience and qualifications
3 on / 3 off rota
8:45pm to 7:15am waking nights
