Responsible Individual
Type: 2x Two Bed Children's Residential Homes (EBD)
Location: Wellingborough / Northamptonshire
Day Rate: £450 to £500 per day
Availability: approximately 4 days per month
Two small EBD children's homes in Northamptonshire, both running well, both led by a Dual Registered Manager who know what they're doing, and both owned by people who are properly involved. What they're missing is a Responsible Individual with the experience and the presence to push the Leadership and Management standard from good to something genuinely exceptional.
Both homes work to a trauma-informed, therapeutic model, with staff trained in approaches that help children build trust and regulate their emotions. The mission across both is straightforward: give every child in their care the chance to thrive, achieve, and feel like they belong somewhere.
You'd work directly with the two owners and the Dual Registered Manager, with a clear brief and genuine influence over how things develop. Around 4 days a month, flexible on which days suit you, and open to being structured as employment or as a consultancy arrangement depending on what works best for you.
Your responsibilities
Provide RI governance and strategic oversight across both children's homes
Review Regulation 44 reports, Ofsted feedback and internal audits, and turn the findings into practical, time-bound improvement plans
Strengthen Leadership and Management practice and recording in line with the Children's Homes Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards under SCCIF
Hold structured governance meetings with owners and Registered Managers on a regular basis
Visit both homes and give honest, constructive feedback that supports managers as much as it challenges them
Prepare both services for future inspection with evidence that stands up to scrutiny and a clear narrative behind it
What we're looking for
Experience as a Responsible Individual, Senior Operations Manager or Regional Manager with oversight across multiple homes
A track record of improving or sustaining Good or Outstanding Ofsted ratings in children's residential care
Strong working knowledge of the Children's Homes Regulations 2015, SCCIF, the Quality Standards, and Regulation 44 and 45 practice
Confidence giving direct feedback to managers while keeping the working relationship intact
A comfortable grasp of reporting, recording and quality assurance systems
Someone who works well within a smaller, owner-led provider where honesty and visibility genuinely matter
Being within sensible travelling distance of Wellingborough and Northamptonshire matters here, since regular in-person visits are part of doing the role properly rather than an afterthought.
What's on offer
£450 to £500 per day depending on experience
Roughly 4 days per month with flexibility over which days you commit to
Part-time employment or self-employed consultancy, whichever suits your circumstances
Direct access to owners who are genuinely engaged and want real RI input, not a signature on a page
Real influence over governance, Leadership and Management, and quality assurance across both homes
This is a provider with a clear therapeutic identity, owners who welcome challenge instead of shying away from it, and two homes with plenty of room to grow into something excellent.
