Registered Manager

Derby (DE22) | Up to £50,000 + £3,000 Annual Bonus

This is a Registered Manager position based in Derby (DE22), offering a salary of £50,000 plus a £3,000 annual bonus dependent on performance criteria. The role is Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00, 40 hours per week, with the expectation that you’ll flex when the home needs it and shared on-call responsibility on a rota basis roughly once every five weeks.

The home itself is a two-bedded therapeutic residential children’s home, supporting young people aged 8 to 18 who present with emotional and behavioural difficulties. There’s already a Deputy Manager in post, so what we need now is an experienced, registered leader who can step in, steady the ship and genuinely run the place.

What Makes This Role Different

The provider behind this home operates across multiple therapeutic EBD settings and works within a Non-Violent Resistance framework supported by attachment theory. Young people are involved in the final stages of staff selection, and parents are actively encouraged to stay part of the picture.

Their clinical and therapeutic provision includes trained therapists working across areas like ADHD, autism, anxiety, trauma and self-esteem, alongside collaborative working with CAMHS. For a Registered Manager, that’s potentially a significant thing, because it means the young people in your care have real wraparound support, and you’re not expected to carry that clinical weight alone.

Leadership here is hands-on and present, and the senior management team shares the on-call load with you, so it’s not the kind of set-up where you’re left holding everything on your own at 11pm on a Sunday. There’s infrastructure, there’s a team that’s been built thoughtfully.

What the Role Involves

  • Overall responsibility for the smooth running of a two-bedded therapeutic EBD residential children’s home in Derby, ensuring full compliance with Children’s Homes Regulations, Quality Standards and Ofsted requirements

  • Leading and supporting a staff team, delivering supervisions and Personal Development Plans, and creating a working environment where people grow professionally

  • Facilitating Reg 44 visits and ensuring actions are addressed promptly, and completing and submitting Reg 45 reports to Ofsted on a six-monthly basis

  • Overseeing all care planning, safeguarding processes and documentation, ensuring the voices of young people are genuinely heard and reflected in their care

  • Managing placements carefully to ensure appropriate matching that puts the needs of the young people already in the home at the centre of every decision

  • Handling all staffing administration including rotas, payroll, training compliance and any HR-related matters within company deadlines

  • Liaising with placing authorities, social workers, LADO, Ofsted and other relevant bodies as required

  • Shared on-call responsibility, approximately one week in every five, alongside the senior management team

What They’re Looking For

  • A Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or the Children, Young People and Families Manager equivalent), or a qualification considered transferable

  • A track record of successful Ofsted registration as a Registered Manager, with the ability to go through the fit person process again for this home

  • At least two years’ experience in a supervisory role within children’s residential care

  • Solid, demonstrable experience of working with children in a residential setting, with EBD experience considered a strong advantage

  • Strong leadership skills and the kind of communication that inspires people rather than just manages them

  • Excellent organisational ability and a genuine commitment to the wellbeing and safeguarding of young people

  • A full UK driving licence

On the Salary

£50,000 with a £3,000 annual bonus on top of that, subject to criteria. For a two-bedded therapeutic EBD home, that’s a reflection of what the role actually demands and the level of accountability it carries. It’s a position with genuine room to grow within an organisation that takes its homes and its people seriously.
