MANAGER

Registered Manager

  • Registered 4 bed Children's Home

  • EBD

  • Ashton-under-Lyne (Tameside, Greater Manchester)

  • £55,000 to £60,000 plus bonuses

We're looking for an experienced Registered Manager to open and lead a brand new EBD children's home in Ashton-under-Lyne, a four bed residential children's home that will become home to up to four young people, with a salary of £55,000 to £60,000 a year plus bonuses. While the Ashton-under-Lyne home moves through Ofsted registration, you'll be working alongside the current dual Registered Manager across the provider's two established Salford children's homes, both rated Good by Ofsted, so you can get to know the young people, the staff team and the values of the organisation before you open your own front door.

Why this Registered Manager role stands out

  • You get a proper runway into the job, spending the registration period inside two Good-rated homes where you can learn the systems, build relationships with the team and bring those strong foundations with you into Ashton-under-Lyne from day one.

  • You'll potentially be leading a home from its very first referral, which means shaping the Statement of Purpose, the matching approach and the culture of the staff team in a way that feels like your own from the start.

  • This provider is growing from two homes to three, so the Registered Manager who opens Ashton-under-Lyne will have a real voice in how the organisation develops over the next few years, and that kind of influence tends to be hard to come by in larger groups.

  • Working across Salford and Tameside gives you a wider network of social workers, virtual schools and partner agencies across Greater Manchester, which can only strengthen the support around the young people you care for.

Who you'll be working with

  • This is a small, privately run children's residential care provider based in Salford, led by a director who is closely involved in day-to-day life in the homes and who runs them because he cares deeply about the young people living there.

  • To be honest, having a director who knows every young person by name and is on hand when you need a decision or some backing makes a huge difference to a Registered Manager, especially during the early months of opening a new home.

  • Both of the provider's Salford homes are rated Good by Ofsted, which gives you a strong, proven model of care to build on as you register and open the Ashton-under-Lyne home.

  • Their ethos centres on helping young people set goals and then supporting them to reach those goals, with sport, introductions to potential careers, positive role models and learning about healthy relationships and healthy lifestyles all woven into everyday care.

  • The provider funds the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for its staff, which means you can grow your own team leaders and deputies from within, and maybe build the kind of leadership team around you that most managers only ever wish for.

What you'll be doing as Registered Manager

  • Working alongside the existing dual Registered Manager across the two Salford children's homes during the registration period, learning how the provider's care, systems and quality assurance fit together.

  • Leading the Ofsted registration of the new Ashton-under-Lyne children's home, including preparing for your own registration and fit person interview with confidence and support.

  • Shaping the Statement of Purpose, location risk assessment, policies and admissions approach, so every referral is thoughtfully matched to the young people already living in the home.

  • Recruiting, inducting and developing a brand new residential support worker team, with clear pathways into senior, team leader and deputy roles backed by funded Level 5 study.

  • Building strong working partnerships with social workers, Independent Reviewing Officers, virtual schools, CAMHS, local police and families across Tameside and Greater Manchester.

  • Leading reflective supervision, team meetings, audits and Regulation 45 reviews that keep practice child-centred and continually improving.

  • Championing each young person's aspirations, whether that means returning to education, joining a local sports club, starting work experience or simply feeling settled enough in their home to try something new.

What you'll bring

  • Experience as a Registered Manager in a residential children's home, or strong Deputy Manager experience in children's residential care alongside a clear readiness to step up and register with Ofsted.

  • A Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or equivalent, or good progress towards completing it.

  • Confident working knowledge of the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, the Quality Standards and the Social Care Common Inspection Framework.

  • Experience supporting young people with emotional and behavioural needs through a trauma-informed, relationship-based approach that sees the child first and understands the story behind their behaviour.

  • New home opening or registration experience would be a cracking bonus, although a strong track record of leading a team and improving outcomes for young people is what matters most.

  • A full UK driving licence, as you'll be moving between Salford and Ashton-under-Lyne, particularly during the first few months.

Salary and package

  • A salary of £55,000 to £60,000 a year, reflecting the responsibility of leading an established team, registering a new children's home and helping a growing provider take its next big step all at the same time.

  • Bonuses on top of your base salary, recognising the difference you make to the home, the team and the young people in your care.

  • Funded Level 5 study for your staff team, giving you the tools to develop and keep the people you recruit.

  • A supportive, hands-on director and the opportunity to grow alongside the organisation as it continues to expand across Greater Manchester.

Let's have a chat

If you're a Registered Manager, or a Deputy Manager ready for that next step, and you'd love to open a children's home with real support behind you, a director who's properly invested and the freedom to put your own stamp on the culture, I'd really enjoy talking it through with you. Send over your CV or drop me a message for an informal conversation, and I'll happily share more about the home, the team and what the first few months are likely to look like before you make any decisions.
