Registered Manager

  • Residential Children’s Home

  • New 2 Bed EBD Service

  • Ofsted Outstanding and Good Provider

  • Barnet, North London NW4

  • £50,000 to £60,000 Basic plus £10,000 Annual Bonus

If you’ve ever led a children’s home and wondered what you’d create if you could start with a completely blank page, this is your chance. It’s a brand new two bed home in Barnet, NW4, opening with a therapeutic residential childcare group whose East Midlands home was judged Outstanding in all three areas at a full Ofsted inspection in July 2026, with no requirements or recommendations. You’d be setting the culture, choosing your team and shaping how the home feels for young people from the day the doors open, with a proven practice model, a full clinical partnership and a leadership team who’ve already shown what Outstanding looks like right there behind you.

Why This Group Stands Out

  • Their Outstanding home was graded Outstanding for children’s experiences and progress, for how well children are helped and protected, and for the effectiveness of leaders and managers, and the group’s other homes currently hold Good and Outstanding judgements, so you’d be joining a provider whose track record you can talk about with real pride

  • That Outstanding home is led by a Registered Manager who started out with the group as a Residential Support Worker and grew into registered management from within, which tells you a great deal about how seriously they take developing their people

  • Inspectors highlighted the exceptional progress children make from their starting points, leaders who advocate tirelessly for education so that young people who’d been out of school for long periods are now attending regularly and working towards qualifications, and creative, highly individualised direct work using the least restrictive approaches, and that same practice model comes straight to Barnet

  • The founder spent close to twenty years helping adults move from homelessness into settled homes before setting up the group in 2022, after seeing again and again how much a person’s childhood shapes the rest of their life, and that sense of purpose runs through everything from how the homes are furnished to how staff are looked after

  • The chief executive joined after many years with one of the UK’s largest national care providers, choosing a smaller, family led organisation where she can make meaningful change for children, and she works closely alongside the founder and the Responsible Individuals to guide every new home through registration and well beyond

  • Care is built around four connected strands, which are therapeutic parenting, PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy), psychological therapy and Positive Behaviour Support, so you’ll be leading within a clear framework that looks at the reasons behind behaviour and helps every young person feel understood and accepted

  • A partnership with an independent psychology service gives the home access to clinical, forensic and educational psychologists, psychotherapists, psychiatrists, paediatricians, creative therapists working through art, dance and movement, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists

  • That same clinical partnership provides psychological assessments, trauma focused therapy, reflective practice for care teams, clinical governance and staff training running from introductory workshops through to accredited qualifications, so your team grows in skill and confidence as the home grows

  • The homes are spacious, beautifully finished properties in quiet residential streets with lovely gardens, designed to be the kind of homes the leadership team would happily raise their own families in, and places young people are proud to invite their friends round to

  • Young people enjoy holidays abroad, specialist education where it’s needed and genuine community connection through groups like Cadets, Brownies and Scouts, giving you a rich, well rounded model of care to build your home around

  • Barnet sits close to the group’s Hertfordshire home, and NW4 is well connected through Hendon Central on the Northern line, the M1, the A41 and the North Circular, which makes getting to schools, meetings and professionals across North London much easier

What You’ll Be Leading

  • Opening and registering a brand new two bed children’s home for young people with emotional and behavioural needs, building the systems, routines and culture from the ground up with senior leadership alongside you at every stage

  • Holding Ofsted registration as the home’s Registered Manager and preparing the service with confidence for its first full inspection under the Social Care Common Inspection Framework (SCCIF)

  • Recruiting, inducting and developing a brand new staff team through safer recruitment practice, and creating the warm, reflective team culture you’d want to be part of yourself

  • Embedding therapeutic parenting and PACE into everyday life in the home so every member of your team understands the thinking behind the care they give

  • Working with the clinical team, the Responsible Individual and local authorities on thoughtful matching, so each young person moving in joins a home that suits their needs, their personality and the young person already living there

  • Shaping individualised, trauma informed care plans and risk assessments with specialist clinical input from the very first day

  • Leading on safeguarding and making sure every member of staff holds an enhanced DBS check along with the right level of training for their role

  • Building strong relationships with Barnet and placing local authorities, social workers, schools, health professionals and the wider North London community as young people settle into their new home

  • Championing each young person’s education, health, interests and ambitions, following the example that earned the group’s Outstanding home such strong praise from inspectors

  • Ensuring full compliance with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards, including Regulation 44 visits, Regulation 45 reviews, Regulation 40 notifications, the Statement of Purpose and Annex A

  • Managing the home’s budget, quality assurance systems and statutory records as the service becomes fully operational and grows in confidence

What You’ll Bring

  • A Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or a clear commitment to completing it within the required timeframe

  • Experience as a Registered Manager in a children’s home, and if you’ve opened, registered or developed a new service before that will be of real interest, although an experienced Deputy Manager who feels ready to step up will be warmly welcomed too

  • A strong working knowledge of SCCIF, the Quality Standards and the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, along with confidence in leading a home through inspection

  • Experience supporting young people with emotional and behavioural needs, ideally using trauma informed or therapeutic approaches such as PACE or therapeutic parenting

  • A full UK driving licence, since opening a new home involves regular travel to meetings, schools and services across North London and beyond

  • A reflective, organised and resilient approach, plenty of energy for what opening a new home brings, and real excitement about building something you’ll be proud of for years to come

The Package

  • £50,000 to £60,000 basic salary depending on experience, plus a £10,000 annual bonus on top

  • Generous annual leave, a pension scheme and a comprehensive health and wellbeing programme

  • A cycle to work scheme and a relaxed dress code that suits a home environment

  • Hands on support from the chief executive, the founder and the Responsible Individuals throughout opening, registration and your first inspection

  • Everyday access to a full multidisciplinary clinical team, with reflective practice available to you and every member of your staff team

  • Ongoing training, open communication and mentorship built into the culture of the group from day one

  • Genuine progression within a growing organisation that’s proved it develops its people from within, with the group continuing to expand into new areas
