Registered Manager
New LD/SEMH Children's Home
3 Bed
Burnley BB10
£55,000 to £60,000
In Burnley right now, a brand new children's home is going through building control, and the person who becomes its Registered Manager will get to write its Statement of Purpose, build its policies, and set its culture before a single young person moves in. That's the opportunity here, in plain terms, and it's one of the more interesting Registered Manager vacancies circulating in residential childcare at the moment, given how few new-build learning disability/mental health services come to market with this level of founding influence attached.
Why this one's different from the usual Registered Manager listing
No existing Ofsted history to inherit, no legacy practices to unpick, no previous manager's decisions to work around
A blank canvas specialism, built specifically for children and young people with learning disabilities/mental health from day one
Full involvement in shaping the Statement of Purpose, staffing structure, and care philosophy of the home
Backed by ownership with hands-on experience opening residential children's homes, so you're building with proven support behind you
A likely three bed setting, which tends to support closer relationships, more consistent staffing, and stronger individualised outcomes for children with complex needs
What the role involves
Leading the Ofsted registration process for the home from application through to inspection readiness
Writing and owning the Statement of Purpose and associated policies specific to a learning disability/mental health specialism
Recruiting and shaping a staff team suited to the needs of the young people the home will support
Building relationships with placing local authorities, families, and multi-agency professionals ahead of first placements
Embedding safeguarding practice, quality assurance, and care standards that will define the home's reputation going forward
Working closely with ownership on the physical readiness of the building alongside the registration timeline
What we're hoping to see in you
Previous experience opening a children's residential home, ideally taken through from registration to a settled, thriving service
Specific experience supporting children or young people with learning disabilities and/or mental health, given the specialism of this home
Strong working knowledge of the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the quality standards that underpin them
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, held or being worked towards
A genuine enthusiasm for shaping a service from its earliest stages, with the patience and judgement that founding work asks for
What's on offer
A salary of £55,000 to £60,000 per annum, reflecting the complexity and responsibility of registering and stabilising a brand new specialist service
The professional credibility that comes with being the founding Registered Manager of a service
Full involvement in decisions most Registered Managers only get to influence once a home is already established
If you've opened a children's home before and know that particular mix of pressure and pride that comes with the weeks before first registration, or if you've got strong learning disability and/or mental health experience and have been waiting for a leadership role that lets you build something properly from its foundations, this is worth a conversation. Send your CV over, or give us a call, and let's talk about whether Burnley and this home are the right next move for you.
