REGISTERED
MANAGER
Children’s Home (Learning Disabilities)
Location: Heanor, Derbyshire (DE75)
Salary: £50,000 to £60,000 per year (negotiable for the right person)
Home: 5-bed LD children’s home | 2 young people in place | Full staff team including experienced Deputy
You’ll be stepping into a registered 5-bed children’s home for young people aged roughly 7–17 with learning disabilities and associated needs. The home already has two children in place, a full staff team on rota, and an experienced Deputy who knows the house and the young people well. It’s not a rescue job; it’s about moving a great service into its next chapter.
The organisation behind it is family-run, values-led and therapeutic in approach. They work with children who have learning disabilities alongside SEMH, autism and complex trauma, and they’re intentional about creating warm, structured homes.
The Responsible Individual lives locally, is very hands-on, and wants a Registered Manager they can genuinely partner with; someone who knows LD practice, likes being visible in the home, and enjoys shaping a team around thoughtful, individualised care. There are expansion plans once this home is fully embedded, so there’s a real pathway into wider leadership if that appeals.
What you’ll be doing
Holding Ofsted registration and leading the 5-bed LD home day to day
Making sure children’s homes regulations, Quality Standards and LD best practice are woven into daily life
Leading and developing a full staff team, with strong support from an experienced Deputy
Overseeing care plans, reviews and behaviour support that reflect communication, sensory and independence needs
Driving safeguarding, risk management and multi-agency work with schools, health and social care
Using audits, feedback and data to keep quality high and inspection-readiness constant
Managing admissions and matching so the group dynamic stays safe and purposeful
Contributing to wider service development as the organisation grows its LD provision
What you’ll bring
Experience as a Registered Manager in children’s residential care, or a very strong Deputy with LD experience ready to step up
Proven background supporting children or young people with learning disabilities and complex needs
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (or very close to completion)
A confident grasp of Ofsted frameworks, safeguarding and the Children’s Homes Regulations
Leadership that combines clear standards with a thoughtful, relational approach
A full UK driving licence
Pay, benefits and progression
£50,000 to £60,000 per year, with flexibility for the right candidate
Bonus structure linked to performance and outcomes
Strong staff team already in place, including an established Deputy
Visible, supportive RI based locally and actively involved in the service
Private medical cover, wellbeing support and a benefits package
Ongoing training, funded CPD and tailored leadership development
Genuine progression prospects as additional children’s LD homes open
Why this role stands out
You’re not walking into a blank canvas or a service in crisis. You’re taking on a registered home with children already placed, a settled staff group, an experienced Deputy at your side and a senior leader who lives close enough to be there when it counts.
The organisation is small enough for you to know the decision-makers personally, and established enough to offer proper structure, benefits and long-term plans. Homes are therapeutic by design, with a strong focus on communication, relationships and helping young people with learning disabilities build real independence over time.
If you’re looking for a Registered Manager post where you can really shape LD practice, influence the future direction of the home and still feel backed, this is well worth exploring.
