MANAGER

Registered Manager

  • Residential Childcare

  • Horsforth, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS18

  • Salary £48,000 to £55,000 depending on experience

  • Brand new two bed children's home supporting young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD).

  • Part of an established group

This is a registration from scratch role for someone who wants to build something genuinely good in one of Leeds's most well regarded neighbourhoods, rather than inherit a service that someone else set the tone for.

Horsforth sits on the north western edge of Leeds, walkable, well connected, the kind of place that feels like a community rather than just a postcode. The children who live in residential homes don't just live inside those four walls, they live in a street, in a neighbourhood, close to schools and shops and parks and the ordinary texture of a life, and starting a home in a location like this gives you something to work with from day one.

What makes this meaningfully different from a lot of the new registration roles on the market right now is the organisation behind it. Another home within the same group went through its first ever Ofsted inspection not long ago and came back rated good for the experiences and progress of children, and good for how well they're helped and protected, with inspectors noting real, evidenced improvements in the young person's safety and wellbeing under the care of the staff team. That's not something you can say about every new home.

The group is growing at a safe pace, three homes open now, potentially six by the end of this year and that kind of growth creates real, genuine opportunities for managers who want more than one home's worth of responsibility over time. Progression into operations or regional leadership roles will follow naturally as the group scales, and the organisation has already shown it backs people from within rather than looking outside every time a more senior role opens up.

The salary reflects the complexity of the role, £48,000 to £55,000 is the range, and the upper end is realistic for someone with around two years' experience as a Registered Manager and a couple of good Ofsted outcomes to point to. Beyond the number itself, building a two bed EBD home from its very first day and doing it well is the kind of experience that opens doors in this sector for years afterwards.

What the role involves

  • Leading the full Ofsted registration process for a brand new two bed home in Horsforth, Leeds, from SC1 and SC2 application through to the registration interview and beyond, with experienced support from a leadership team who've been through the same process recently and know precisely what it involves.

  • Developing the home's Statement of Purpose, behaviour support framework, and all associated policies and care planning structures specifically for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties, so that everything reflects the actual needs of the young people who will live there rather than a generic template.

  • Recruiting a small staff team from scratch and embedding consistent supervision, regular team meetings and quality assurance practices from the very first week, so the culture and the standards are right from the beginning rather than something you try to fix later.

  • Holding full responsibility for placement planning, risk assessment and care planning for the two children once the home is registered and open, working closely with placing local authorities, the young people's professional networks, and the wider multi-agency team around each child.

  • Acting as the primary registered contact for Ofsted, Leeds commissioning and placing authorities throughout the registration journey and into the home's early operational life.

What you'll bring

  • A genuine, evidenced track record in children's residential social care, whether that's already at Registered Manager level or as a Deputy Manager who is properly prepared to lead a first registration and can demonstrate that readiness clearly.

  • A Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or a clear and credible plan to work towards it with the support of an organisation that takes professional development seriously.

  • A strong understanding of the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and of working with children who have emotional and behavioural difficulties, ideally grounded in genuine hands on experience rather than just familiarity with the guidance.

  • Confidence building a team and a culture from nothing, with a preference for the blank page over walking into a service that's already set its own standards, for better or worse.

  • A Full UK Driving Licence

  • A sound grasp of safeguarding, safer recruitment and what meaningful quality assurance actually looks like in a small, relationship centred home.

If leading the registration and build of a brand new two bed EBD home in a really good part of Leeds, with a group behind you who've already proven they can do this well, sounds like the kind of challenge your experience has been pointing you toward, it's worth getting in touch.
