Registered Manager
7 Bed EBD Children's Home
Rated "Good" by Ofsted
Current Registered Manager is progressing within the company
Ipswich, Suffolk
Up to £60,000pa
This Registered Manager vacancy in Ipswich has opened up because the current manager is progressing internally into an Operations Manager role across the group, which tells you something worth knowing before you read another word: this is a home built well enough that people get promoted out of it.
Why this Registered Manager role is worth your attention
Five of the seven beds at this EBD children's home are currently filled by settled young people, so you're stepping into continuity and an established team dynamic
The home operates a therapeutic secure base model of care, developed through research led out of a leading UK university, giving your leadership an evidence based framework to work within
A Consultant Clinical Psychologist is embedded within the organisation and delivers monthly training, clinical supervision and consultation directly to staff, meaning your team's development is genuinely resourced rather than left to chance
The home is rated Good by Ofsted, sitting within a small, purpose led provider group that has grown carefully in Suffolk
Current staff describe a spacious, well resourced home, strong training provision and a team that looks out for each other, which as any Registered Manager will tell you is half the battle before you've even walked through the door
What you'll be responsible for
Providing confident, visible day to day leadership of a seven bed EBD children's home, holding responsibility for the safety, wellbeing and progress of every young person living there
Leading, developing and supervising a staff team, covering rotas, training, performance and wellbeing in a way that builds a stable and motivated workforce
Maintaining full compliance with the Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards, and preparing thoroughly and confidently for Ofsted inspection
Working directly alongside an in-house Consultant Clinical Psychologist to embed therapeutic, attachment informed practice into everyday care delivery
Building strong, trusted relationships with placing authorities, families, education providers and wider professional networks around each young person
Managing home budgets, occupancy levels and resources with a commercially aware, sustainable approach
Championing a wide and genuinely individualised programme of activities and experiences for each young person, involving them meaningfully in decisions about their own care
What we're looking for in a Registered Manager
A Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or clear commitment to working towards it
Demonstrable experience as a Registered Manager, or as a strong Deputy Manager ready to lead
Strong understanding of therapeutic and attachment based approaches to supporting young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs
Confident working knowledge of Ofsted's inspection framework and the wider regulatory landscape for children's homes
Natural leadership presence, resilience and the kind of communication skills that keep a team pulling in one direction even on the harder days
Full UK Driving Licence
What's in it for you
A salary of up to £60,000pa for the right candidate given the complexity and responsibility this role carries
28 days annual leave as standard, with scope to move to 30 days once established in post
Direct coaching and mentoring support from an experienced Operations Manager, particularly valuable if you're stepping up from a Deputy Manager role for the first time
Flexibility around notice periods, including support with a three month handover where needed to get the right person into the role properly
The interview process here is deliberately straightforward and respectful of your time, starting with a conversation with the Operations Manager, followed by a second stage with the organisation's two directors, and finishing with a site visit so you can meet the team and the young people yourself before making any decision.
If you're a Registered Manager looking for a home with genuine clinical backing behind it, or a Deputy Manager ready to take that next step with real support behind you, get in touch for a confidential conversation about what this role actually looks like day to day.
