We're looking for an experienced Registered Manager to take the lead at a Good-rated four-bed children's home in the heart of Ipswich, working with young people aged 9 to 17 who present with emotional and behavioural difficulties, and offering a salary of up to £55,000 depending on experience.

You'd be picking up a home that's already settled, with three young people currently in placement, a staff team that's been together for a while and knows the young people well, and a Good Ofsted rating.

The organisation behind this home is a small, privately-owned provider with three registered children's homes across Suffolk, and an Operations Manager who is genuinely present in the day to day running of the homes.They work to the Secure Base model, use Thrive as part of their approach to emotional wellbeing, and have a clinical psychologist involved in supporting the wider team.

The home itself is a large Victorian house close to the centre of Ipswich, in a multicultural and well-connected part of the city, and it sits alongside two sister homes and their Registered Managers, so you'd have peers who understand what your week looks like.

The role

• Lead and develop the staff team, with direct support from an experienced Operations Manager and a Responsible Individual who is properly involved rather than distant

• Maintain and build on the home's Good Ofsted rating, with a real and supported ambition towards Outstanding

• Hold full operational responsibility for safeguarding, regulatory compliance and the Statement of Purpose

• Build and maintain relationships with placing authorities, social workers, families and the wider professional network around each young person

• Oversee the home's budget, rota, recruitment and training

• Embed the Secure Base model and trauma-informed practice into daily life at the home, keeping care consistently led by what the young people actually need

• Work alongside the Operations Manager, the Responsible Individual, and your fellow Registered Managers across the group's other homes, a peer network that's there in practice, not just on paper

About you

• Demonstrable experience as a strong Deputy or Registered Manager within a children's residential home

• Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, completed or actively working towards with clear evidence of progress

• A track record of leading or contributing to a team through Ofsted inspection, with outcomes of at least Good

• A working understanding of the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards that goes beyond the theory

• Confident safeguarding leadership, including direct experience supporting young people with EBD or SEMH needs and the risks that can come with that, missing episodes, exploitation, and complex behaviours among them

• Strong professional judgement and a visibly hands-on approach to leadership, someone who's on the floor with the team and the young people when it matters, not just behind a desk

• A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle

Experience in an EBD setting specifically would help, as would familiarity with the Secure Base model, trauma-informed practice, or PACE, and if you've been part of a new home opening or a quality improvement drive before, that's potentially useful too, though none of that is a dealbreaker if the rest of your experience stacks up.

On the practical side, salary sits between £45,000 and £55,000 depending on experience, which reflects the level of accountability that comes with holding a Good-rated home and the responsibility of registering with Ofsted as its manager, and there's a bonus on top linked to KPIs. On-call is shared across the management team , and there's a relocation package available for the right candidate if you're coming from outside the area, though the preference is for someone within roughly an hour of Leiston.
