MANAGER

Registered Manager

Children's Residential Care (EBD/LD)

Manchester M16

Salary £55,000 to £65,000 per annum, plus benefits package

This Registered Manager role is within an Ofsted registered four-bedroom children's home built around a flexible provision model, designed to sit comfortably across learning disabilities and lower-level emotional and behavioural difficulties, caring for young people aged eight to seventeen.

You would be stepping into a home and a wider organisation that is part-way through a significant rebrand and a period of growth, which means the service model has deliberately been left flexible so that the manager coming in can help shape it around the children. That flexibility is the whole point, and it is the thing that makes this different from the dozen near-identical Registered Manager posts sat next to it on Indeed today.

The organisation behind the home run 6 therapeutic children's homes across the Midlands and the North West all rated "Good" by Ofsted. The therapeutic side to the business is not bolted on as a marketing line, it runs right through the model. We are talking PACE-informed practice, Positive Behaviour Support, social pedagogy and trauma-informed care embedded in how the staff teams are trained and how the homes are run day to day, alongside in-house education and therapy services that mean a child's support does not stop at the front door of the home.

There is also real leadership weight behind this particular post, with a Head of Care and a Group Operations Director who carry experience from multiple years in the sector, and a specialist education setting sitting only a few minutes away, so the oversight and the wraparound are genuinely there.

What you would actually be doing:

  • Taking full leadership and day-to-day management of the home, holding the registration and setting the standard that everything else follows from

  • Creating a child-centred, therapeutic and outcomes-focused environment where young people aged eight to seventeen feel safe enough to make progress

  • Ensuring full compliance with the Children's Homes Regulations, safeguarding requirements and quality standards, and leading Ofsted inspections with confidence

  • Leading, developing and inspiring a staff team, getting the best from people and building a culture worth staying for

  • Managing budgets, rotas and overall service performance so the home runs well commercially as well as relationally

  • Building strong, trusting relationships with social workers, families, placing authorities and the professionals around each child

What would make you a strong fit:

  • A Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or an equivalent qualification, or genuine progress towards it

  • At least 12 months' experience as a Registered Manager in a residential childrens home

  • Hands-on experience within learning disabilities and/or emotional and behavioural difficulties settings, since the flexible model leans on exactly that versatility

  • A confident working knowledge of the relevant legislation, the Quality Standards and safeguarding practice

  • A leadership style that motivates a team and keeps the child firmly at the centre of every decision

  • A full UK driving licence

On the money, the band runs to £65,000 because the work is layered and the expectations are high, and it sits alongside a bonus scheme, private health insurance, a pension, team incentives.

If you are an experienced and adaptable leader who has been waiting for a post with enough scope to leave your own mark on it, this is potentially one worth a look. You do not need a polished application to start the conversation, so if it sounds like you, or even if you are just curious and want to talk it through before deciding, get in touch and let's have a chat about whether it fits. I would genuinely rather have an honest conversation than a perfect CV.
