REGISTERED
MANAGER
Registered Manager
Children's Residential Care
Rotherham, South Yorkshire
Salary £48,000 to £55,000
This is a "Good" rated, solo placement home, registered with Ofsted under the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, open and running for well over a year, currently supporting one young person on a two to one staffing basis, and what it needs now is a Registered Manager who can lead a settled, established placement rather than build a home from nothing.
The young person here has had time to settle, by every account, doing really well, and that kind of progress only happens with consistency behind it. What's wanted is someone who can take a small staff team that's already doing plenty right and bring the kind of confident, hands on leadership that turns a good home into one that runs the same way whoever's on shift, the sort of leadership that gets a team pulling together properly.
This home sits within a wider group built by people who've spent the best part of the last decade actively working in residential childcare themselves. They run homes and agencies across the country, work directly with local authorities nationally, and the organisation is growing, from three homes open today toward six by the end of this year. What that means for whoever takes this role is genuine progression, with real opportunities into operations or regional leadership for managers. There's also an openness here to developing people from within, deputies who are ready to step up get backed properly.
What the role involves
Taking full day to day responsibility for a single occupancy children's home, registered under the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, including overall accountability for the quality and consistency of care delivered.
Bringing genuine direction and confidence to a small staff team working a two to one ratio, so the standard of care doesn't shift depending on who happens to be on shift that day.
Holding overall ownership of the placement plan, risk assessments and care planning for the young person living there, working closely alongside the local authority and the wider professional network involved in their care.
Preparing thoroughly for Ofsted inspections and leading through them with the proper backing of a leadership team who've been through that exact process many times themselves.
Completing your Ofsted registration as the named Registered Manager if you're not already registered, with full and genuine support through the SC2 process, no messing about, from people who know precisely what it involves.
Recruiting, developing and holding onto the right people for the home, including realistic opportunities to grow staff from within rather than starting from scratch every time someone moves on.
What you'll bring
A genuine track record in children's residential care, whether that's already at Registered Manager level or as a Deputy Manager who feels properly ready to take that next step.
A Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or a clear and realistic plan to work towards one.
The confidence to lead a team through the ordinary pressure of daily care without losing sight of what good, individualised support looks like for the one young person this role centres around.
A strong grasp of safer recruitment, safeguarding and the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, built from genuinely having worked within them rather than simply having read about them.
A willingness to be hands on when it's needed, while still holding onto the bigger picture of where this home and the young person living in it need to go next.
Apply through Indeed, or reach out directly if you'd rather talk through what this particular home and this particular young person need before you commit to anything, that's a perfectly reasonable way to start too.
