MANAGER
Dual Registered Manager
Children's Residential Care
Swinton, Greater Manchester
£80,000 per annum
Two small EBD children's homes, both rated Good by Ofsted, both fully staffed, about five minutes apart from each other.
What makes this role different to most others at this level is the position you'd be walking into. Both homes are settled, the teams are in place and working well, each home currently has one young person placed, and the focus is firmly on quality of care rather than crisis management. The senior leadership team are experienced and hands-on, so the support is there when you need it without being overbearing.
The provider works with young people aged 8 to 17 in medium to long-term placements, and their approach goes well beyond providing a roof. They invest in sport, education, positive relationships, and personalised support, because they understand that for a young person who has experienced trauma, it's consistency and opportunity that make the difference. Ofsted inspectors noted that staff are nurturing and act on what children tell them, that there are high expectations around education, and that the homes feel like homes. One young person mentioned wanting to try gymnastics and cheerleading; within weeks, they were going.
That kind of culture comes from the top, and it's what you'd be stepping into and helping to sustain.
The Role
You'll hold Ofsted registration across both homes and take overall responsibility for the quality of care, regulatory compliance, and the development of your teams. Because the homes are only a short distance apart, the dual remit is practical rather than overwhelming.
Holding Ofsted registration and maintaining compliance with the Children's Homes Regulations 2015 and the associated Quality Standards across both homes
Leading two small, established EBD residential support teams in Swinton, M27
Overseeing the care of young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties, ensuring individual needs are met through trauma-informed, person-centred approaches
Building and sustaining strong relationships with placing authorities, social workers, and other external professionals
Managing the operational running of both homes, including budgets, documentation, and regulatory returns
Contributing to quality assurance and continuous improvement alongside a senior leadership team who are visible and engaged
What You'll Need
A Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or be actively working towards it
A solid track record as a Registered Manager in a children's residential setting, or a Deputy Manager who is ready to take the next step
A strong working knowledge of the Children's Homes Regulations 2015, Ofsted inspection frameworks, and the Quality Standards
Experience leading staff teams in an EBD or similar residential environment
A genuine understanding of trauma-informed care and what it looks like in practice
The ability to build effective working relationships with placing authorities, social workers, and multi-agency professionals
An enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one
Salary
£80,000 per annum. The dual registration reflects added responsibility, and the salary reflects that honestly.
Worth Knowing
Both homes carry a current Good rating from Ofsted. Both have stable staff teams already in place. The senior leadership team is described as hands-on and visible, and they have a track record of advocating for the young people in their care and for the people who work for them. If you're someone who wants to do this job properly, in homes that are already in a good place, with an organisation that takes the work seriously, this is probably the one to explore.
