Registered Manager
Children's Residential Home (EBD)
West Yorkshire (Central Wakefield area)
£50,000 to £60,000 per annum, dependent on experience
This is a Registered Manager role with a new independent provider opening a solo-placement home for a child with emotional and behavioural difficulties, based in West Yorkshire with a focus on the Wakefield area, paying between £50,000 and £60,000 per annum depending on your experience.
The home isn't open yet, and the property is still being sourced, so this is genuinely early doors. That might put some people off, and that's fair enough. But for the right person, being involved before the doors open, having a say in how the staff team is built and what the culture looks like from day one, is I think a pretty different proposition to walking into somewhere that's already set in its ways.
The Responsible Individual has spent years working alongside local authorities in this region and knows how placements are commissioned, sustained, and scrutinised. That kind of grounded, practical experience at RI level makes a real difference to how supported a Registered Manager feels, especially in the early stages of a new registration.
What the role looks like day to day:
Leading all aspects of the home's operation as Registered Manager, with a solo placement and likely a 2:1 staffing model
Recruiting, building and developing a staff team around the needs of one young person, which is maybe one of the more meaningful things you can do in this sector
Taking responsibility for Ofsted compliance, quality of care, and the home's ongoing regulatory relationship
Working closely with an RI who is hands-on without being overbearing, and who understands what good residential care actually requires
Playing a part in shaping how this provider grows, because the intention is to expand and the foundations being laid here will matter
What we are looking for:
Experience as a Registered Manager in children's residential care, with a background in EBD or LD provision
Solid knowledge of the Children's Homes Regulations 2015 and Ofsted Quality Standards
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or working towards it
A history of maintaining positive Ofsted outcomes and leading teams that hold together under pressure
Someone who is genuinely motivated by getting a home right, not just getting it open
The salary range of £50,000 to £60,000 reflects the level of responsibility and the complexity of the work. If you are an experienced Registered Manager based in West Yorkshire, or someone who knows this patch well and is ready for something with a bit more room to breathe, it is worth a conversation.
