Brand new two bed home supporting children with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD)

Most Registered Manager adverts asking for help with a new registration leave you working it out largely on your own, leaning on whatever's in the Ofsted guidance and hoping for the best. This one's different because the organisation behind it already has a home locally in the group that is Ofsted rated good for the experiences and progress of children, and good for how well they're protected.

The organisation sits within a wider group that's growing slowly, three homes open today, six expected by the end of this year and with that there's genuine progression into operations or regional leadership for managers . They're also open to strong Deputy Managers who are ready to step into a Registered Manager role for the first time, provided they can show they're genuinely prepared for it.

Given the complexity of leading a registration from scratch alongside everything that comes after it, the salary reflects that properly, £48,000 to £55,000, with the upper end realistic for someone who can point to around two years' experience as a Registered Manager and a couple of good outcomes from Ofsted behind them already. Beyond the number itself, building a brand new service well is the kind of experience that opens doors elsewhere in this sector for years afterwards.

What the role involves

  • Leading the Ofsted registration process for a brand new two bed home from the ground up, with genuine, recent experience elsewhere in the organisation to draw on rather than starting completely from theory.

  • Developing the home's Statement of Purpose, policies and day to day practice for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties, making sure everything reflects properly individualised care rather than a template.

  • Recruiting and building a small staff team from scratch, embedding consistent supervision and regular team meetings from the very first week rather than trying to retrofit them later.

  • Acting as the main point of contact with Ofsted, commissioning and the local authority throughout registration and into the home's early months of operation.

  • Holding full responsibility for placement planning, risk assessment and care planning for the two children once the home opens and they move in.

  • Setting the tone and culture for the home from day one, something that's a good deal easier to build properly at the start than to change once it's already set.

What you'll bring

  • A genuine track record in children's residential care, whether that's already at Registered Manager level or as a Deputy ready and properly prepared to lead a registration for the first time.

  • A Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or a clear and realistic plan to work towards one.

  • Confidence with the Ofsted registration process, or a genuine willingness to learn it properly with experienced support close at hand rather than at arm's length.

  • Comfort building a staff team and a culture from nothing, rather than simply maintaining something that's already in place.

  • A solid grasp of safeguarding, safer recruitment and the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, ideally with a good understanding of working with children who have emotional and behavioural difficulties.

  • A Full UK Driving Licence

If building something from its first day sounds like the kind of challenge that gets you interested rather than nervous, this is worth a conversation.

Apply through Indeed, or get in touch directly if you'd rather talk through what this particular home and this particular opportunity involve before deciding anything, that's a perfectly reasonable way to start too.
