REGISTERED
MANAGER
Registered Manager
Wortley, Leeds LS12
Salary £48,000 to £55,000 depending on experience
A brand new one bed children's home, a solo placement supporting one young person on a two to one staffing basis, and a registration to lead from the ground up under the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015.
The whole service centres on one young person, which means the quality and consistency of the care being delivered has nowhere to hide. What that actually creates, for a manager who's ready for it, is the clearest possible line between your leadership and that young person's outcomes, and in this sector that's something worth having.
The organisation behind this home is growing and they know what good looks like. Another home within the same group recently had an Ofsted inspection and came back rated good for the experiences and progress of children and good for how well they're helped and protected, with real evidenced improvements in the young person's safety and wellbeing noted by inspectors.
Wortley sits in the inner west of Leeds, a well connected, community rooted part of the city with good access to the wider Leeds area, and for a solo placement home this kind of embeddedness in an ordinary neighbourhood is something commissioning increasingly looks for. Leeds is a city with one of the most active commissioning environments in the north, and a small, well run solo placement home in this part of it is a genuinely viable and commercially sound proposition for the right operator.
The group currently has three homes open, expects six by end of this year, and that trajectory means real progression opportunities for Registered Managers, potentially into operations or regional roles as the group builds out.
What the role involves
Leading the Ofsted registration process for a brand new one bed children's home in Wortley, Leeds, from SC1 and SC2 application through to the registration interview, with the genuine support of a group who've been through that process recently and know exactly what it involves.
Developing the Statement of Purpose, risk framework and all associated policies and care planning structures specifically around one young person and their individual needs, building everything around them rather than around a generic model.
Recruiting a small staff team for a two to one ratio and embedding consistent, well documented supervision and team meetings from the very beginning, so the home's quality assurance is in place from day one rather than retrofitted later.
Holding full responsibility for the young person's placement plan, risk assessment and care planning once the home is registered and open, working closely with their placing authority and the full professional network around them.
Acting as the registered contact for Ofsted, Leeds commissioning and the placing local authority throughout registration and into the home's early operational life.
What you'll bring
A genuine and evidenced track record in children's residential social care, either already at Registered Manager level or as a Deputy Manager who is properly and demonstrably ready to lead their first registration.
A Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or a credible and realistic plan to complete it with the active support of an organisation that takes professional development seriously.
A solid understanding of solo placement care and what it takes to build and sustain a small staff team around one young person's complex needs, ideally grounded in real hands on experience rather than just familiarity with the guidance.
Confidence with the Ofsted registration process under the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015, or a genuine willingness to learn it properly with experienced people close at hand.
A sound grasp of safeguarding, safer recruitment and quality assurance in a small home setting, where everything is visible and nothing slips through unnoticed.
If the idea of building a focused, well supported solo placement home from the ground up in Leeds genuinely interests you, rather than just being another role on the list, it's worth having a proper conversation. Apply through Indeed, or get in touch directly if you'd rather talk through what this home, this young person and this opportunity genuinely involve before committing to anything.
