RESIDENTIAL

SUPPORT WORKER

Residential Support Worker

Children’s Residential Home
Aylestone, Leicester LE2

Salary: £31,396 – £33,164 per year
Shift pattern: 1 on / 2 off | 8am start | sleep-ins paid at £50

We are looking for a Residential Support Worker to join the team in Aylestone. Someone who understands that the day-to-day stuff matters just as much as the big moments.

Sometimes it’s helping a young person get through school. Sometimes it’s cooking tea together, going out for an activity, or sitting down after a difficult day and helping them make sense of it.

The role

You’ll be part of a residential care team supporting young people aged around 12–17.

Your role is about creating the kind of home environment where young people can develop confidence, independence and positive relationships.

That means being involved in the whole picture of their daily life.

You might be supporting them with education, helping them attend appointments, planning activities, or simply being present when they need someone steady and consistent around them.

You’ll also play a key role in maintaining a home that feels organised, welcoming and safe for everyone living there.

Day to day responsibilities include:

  • Supporting young people with routines, education, activities and life skills

  • Building positive, trusting relationships that help young people feel secure

  • Working alongside colleagues to deliver consistent care and boundaries

  • Recording important information about each young person accurately

  • Supporting care plans, risk assessments and reviews

  • Working closely with social workers, schools and other professionals

  • Helping maintain a home environment that feels comfortable and well cared for

You’ll work closely with experienced colleagues and leadership who are visible, supportive and very much part of the day-to-day running of the service.

What they’re looking for

You’ll likely bring:

  • Experience working with children or young people

  • A natural ability to build trust and maintain appropriate boundaries

  • Good communication and written recording skills

  • The confidence to work as part of a team and use your own judgement

  • A genuine interest in helping young people develop and move forward

A Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) is welcomed, though people working towards it are often supported as well.

A full UK driving licence is helpful as the home uses vehicles for activities and appointments.

Pay, progression and benefits

Progression here is structured and transparent.

Pay increases are linked to professional development, practice and contribution within the home. The Registered Manager reviews progression alongside clear targets set through PDPs and annual appraisals.

In simple terms, when people grow in the role, their pay reflects it.

Salary: £31,396 to £33,164 inclusive of sleeps

Additional benefits include:

  • Pay progression reviewed twice per year (March and October)

  • Staff completing probation receive the next increment at the earliest review point

  • Sleep-ins paid at £50 per night

  • £2.50 extra per hour overtime once 160 hours per month is exceeded

  • Paid face-to-face training and development

  • Annual appraisal bonus

  • Probation completion bonus

  • Ofsted inspection bonus

  • Extra 8 hours annual leave for your birthday

  • Paid Christmas party

  • Company pension scheme

  • Refer a friend bonus (paid once they complete their first shift)

  • Employee assistance programme for wellbeing support

Training and development are taken seriously here as well. People aren’t just expected to figure things out as they go.

Shift pattern

  • 1 day on / 2 days off rota

  • 8am start

  • Sleep-ins included within the rota when required

The rota gives teams proper time to recharge between shifts, which makes a huge difference in residential care.

Why people stay

  • There’s a clear reason staff stay in homes like this.

  • Leadership is present.

  • Teams are stable.

  • Young people are supported with consistency rather than constant change.

When those things line up, residential childcare becomes what it should be in the first place. A place where young people can genuinely move forward.

And staff feel proud of the work they’re doing.

If you’re someone who cares about doing this work properly, and wants to be part of a team that values that… this could be a really good move.
