Why this home stands out

There are plenty of residential childcare jobs across London on Indeed right now, and I think after a while they all start to read the same, so here's what genuinely sets this one apart for anyone serious about a career in children's residential care.

  • You'd be part of the founding team in a brand new home, helping decide what Sunday dinners look like, how bedtimes feel and how welcome a young person feels on the day they first walk through the door

  • The culture of a children's home takes shape in those first few months, and you'd have a real voice in shaping it alongside the management team

  • One of the organisation's sister homes was recently judged Outstanding by Ofsted, and the Registered Manager who led it there started out as a Residential Support Worker and worked their way up

  • That progression story says a lot about how this provider invests in its people, and it could potentially be your story too

The organisation behind the home

  • A director-led provider with established homes in Northamptonshire, now growing carefully into London, Kent and Leicester one home at a time

  • The directors are properly hands-on, the kind of owners who know the young people by name and know their staff team by name too

  • They're bringing in a CEO to strengthen the leadership as they grow, which shows a provider thinking long term about doing this well

  • Their approach to care is trauma-informed and relationship-led, so young people are understood through their life experiences and the team is supported to look past behaviour to the need sitting underneath it

  • As new homes open, Senior and Team Leader opportunities open with them, so ambitious people have a clear path forward

What you'll be doing

  • Building trusting, consistent relationships with young people and being one of the reliable adults they can count on every day

  • Helping create a warm, safe and homely environment where young people feel listened to and have a real say in everyday life

  • Supporting education, health appointments, family time and the everyday stuff like cooking, homework, hobbies and getting out into the local community

  • Using trauma-informed practice to help young people through big emotions and celebrate every bit of progress with them, however small it might seem

  • Keeping clear, thoughtful records and contributing to care plans, risk assessments and safeguarding in line with the Children's Homes Regulations and Ofsted's Quality Standards

  • Working closely with colleagues, the home's management team, social workers, schools and other professionals so every young person has joined up support around them

  • Bringing your ideas to the table as the home finds its feet and grows into somewhere young people are proud to call home

What you'll bring

  • Experience working with children or young people in a children's residential home

  • A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, or the enthusiasm to complete one with full support from the organisation

  • A good understanding of safeguarding and why it sits at the heart of everything in residential childcare

  • Patience, warmth and a good sense of humour, because young people respond brilliantly to adults who are genuine with them

  • Resilience, hope and a willingness to reflect and learn with your team through supervision and training

  • A full UK driving licence would be a real bonus

  • The right to work in the UK and willingness to complete an enhanced DBS check, which the organisation will help arrange

Pay, rota and benefits

  • Around £7,200 a year in sleep-ins, bringing realistic total earnings to £34,240 to £37,360

  • Support to gain your Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare and develop towards senior roles

  • The chance to join a growing provider that already promotes from within and backs its people
