RESIDENTIAL

SUPPORT WORKER

Residential Support Worker
Children’s Residential Home
Hinckley, Leicestershire (LE10)
£31,396 – £33,164 per year

This opportunity sits within an established children’s residential care provider with homes across the Midlands. The provider has built a reputation for creating environments where young people feel safe, supported and able to rebuild confidence in themselves.

The Role

As a Residential Support Worker, you’ll be part of a team supporting young people who live within the home. Many have experienced disruption earlier in life, so creating a sense of belonging really matters.

The role involves supporting the day to day life of the home.

School runs in the morning. Cooking meals together. Helping young people get to activities they enjoy. Being present during conversations that might seem small at the time but actually mean quite a lot.

There’s structure around the work as well. You’ll contribute to care plans, risk assessments and placement reviews, working alongside social workers, education teams and other professionals involved in the young person’s journey.

Recording is part of the role too. Clear notes, accurate updates, proper communication with the wider team. When that’s done well it helps everyone support the young person in the same direction.

And of course, residential care always involves teamwork. Colleagues supporting one another, sharing ideas, sometimes stepping in when someone else needs a breather.

Shift Pattern

  • 1 on / 2 off rota

  • 8:00am start

  • Sleep-ins required as part of the role.

This structure provides continuity for the young people living in the home while giving staff a good amount of time away from work each month.

Salary

  • £31,396 to £33,164 per year including £50 sleep in rate

Additional earnings include:

  • Overtime paid at £2.50 per hour above 160 hours per month

Progression and Pay Reviews

Career development is built into the structure of the organisation.

Salary progression is linked to development within the role and is reviewed through Personal Development Plans and annual appraisals with the Registered Manager.

Pay increases take place twice per year in March and October.

If probation is completed between those review points, the first increment is applied at the next available review date.

Example:

Pass probation in August → pay increase applied in October.

It’s a clear system, everyone understands how progression works.

Benefits

The role also includes:

  • Paid face to face training and professional development

  • Annual appraisal bonus

  • Probation completion bonus

  • Ofsted inspection bonus

  • Company pension scheme

  • Employment Assistance Programme

  • £50 sleep-ins

  • Overtime rate of £2.50 extra per hour after 160 hours

  • Paid Christmas party

  • Extra 8 hours annual leave for your birthday

  • Refer a friend payment once they complete their first shift

What They’re Looking For

People who tend to thrive in residential childcare share a few things in common.

They understand that behaviour is often communication, especially for young people who have experienced difficult moments earlier in life.

Ideally you’ll have:

  • Experience supporting children or young people in residential care, education, youth work or similar settings

  • A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or working towards it

  • Good written communication skills for recording and reports

  • A full UK driving licence is helpful

More than anything though, they’re looking for someone who genuinely cares about doing the work well.
