Children’s Residential Care

Pay: £13.22 to £14.15 per hour
Overtime Rate: £15.72 to £16.65 per hour
Sleep-ins: £50 per night

This home in Milton Keynes (MK6) is looking for Residential Support Workers who already understand that. People who enjoy being part of a team, who bring energy into the home, who know that consistency and good boundaries matter.

The Home

This provider runs small, family style children’s homes, typically supporting only a few young people at a time. The thinking is simple really; smaller homes create better relationships, more stability and more meaningful support for children who have experienced disruption earlier in life.

The culture across the homes leans heavily on good parenting principles. Encouragement, patience, emotional warmth and clear expectations. The team approach the work with the belief that every young person deserves the same opportunities and encouragement as anyone else, regardless of their background.

When the adults in the home show up consistently, communicate well and support each other properly, young people start to settle. You can see it in the little things first. School attendance. Confidence. Better relationships.

What the role actually looks like

Residential childcare is practical, hands on and relational all at once.

Across a shift you might be:

  • Supporting young people with school routines, activities or appointments

  • Cooking meals together, sometimes teaching basic life skills

  • Helping with homework or encouraging hobbies and interests

  • Recording daily events and significant incidents clearly and accurately

  • Working alongside colleagues to implement care plans and support strategies

  • Attending meetings, reviews and professional discussions about young people

  • Maintaining a clean, comfortable and homely environment

You’ll work as part of a consistent team delivering day to day care and support to young people living in the home.

There are also sleep-in shifts, which form part of the rota.

What you’ll need

The essentials:

  • At least 6 months experience in residential childcare

  • Level 3 or Level 4 Diploma in Children and Young People’s Residential Childcare (ideally)

  • A full UK driving licence

Experience and knowledge:

  • Safeguarding children and young people

  • Ofsted regulations and inspection expectations

  • Professional boundaries and recording practice

  • Team working in residential settings

  • Supporting young people with emotional or behavioural needs

You don’t need to know absolutely everything on day one, residential care is always evolving but a strong understanding of how homes operate and why safeguarding sits at the centre of everything is important.

Pay and progression

£13.22 to £14.15 per hour depending on experience & sleep-ins are £50 per night. Overtime is available and paid at £15.72 to £16.65 per hour.

The provider also runs a clear progression pathway. Staff who develop their skills and take on more responsibility move into Shift Leader and Senior roles, with structured reviews and pay progression built into the process.
