RESIDENTIAL
SUPPORT WORKER
Residential Children’s Home - Learning Disabilities & Autism
Location: Wolverhampton (WV10)
Salary: £33,215 to £38,325 per year (depending on experience & qualifications)
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Rota: 3 on / 3 off, 7am to 9pm
Sleep-ins: None at all - separate waking-night team in place
If you’ve been in residential for a while, you’ll know how unusual this is: a settled children’s LD home, Ofsted Outstanding, no sleep-ins, and a rota that actually gives you proper time off.
You’ll be joining a 2-bed home supporting two young people with learning disabilities and autism. The home is stable, the routines are established, and staff know the young people really well. Your job is to add to that.
The home and the team
This is a small, highly structured service in Wolverhampton, specialising in children and young people with mild to complex learning disabilities. The focus is on therapeutic, consistent care in a genuinely nurturing environment.
Support is 2:1, with four staff on during the day. That means there’s enough cover for outings, personal care, sensory work and all the everyday tasks that keep things running smoothly. You’re never left carrying it on your own.
The provider invests heavily in training and development, with a strong LD focus and clear pathways to Level 4 and Level 5 for those who want to progress.
What you’ll be doing
Supporting two young people with learning disabilities and autism in all aspects of daily life
Using communication tools, sensory activities and structured routines to help them feel secure and understood
Supporting personal care with dignity and respect
Planning and joining in activities; walks, days out, hobbies and time in the community
Working closely with colleagues on 2:1 support, sharing ideas and keeping things consistent
Contributing to care plans, risk assessments, daily logs and reviews
Working closely with the waking-night team to keep handovers tight and the home running smoothly
What you’ll bring
Level 3 (or above) in Residential Childcare / Children & Young People, or strong LD experience with a willingness to complete it
Experience supporting children or young people with learning disabilities and/or autism
Confidence with personal care, communication differences and sensory needs
A grounded, reliable approach and genuine patience
Full UK driving licence (automatic or manual; they’re open to both)
Clear, thoughtful written recording and good teamwork
Pay, rota and benefits
£13.00 to £15.00 per hour (depending on qualification and experience)
Approx. £33,215 to £38,325 per year based on the 3 on / 3 off rota
Overtime paid at an additional £1.00 per hour
3 on / 3 off, 7am–9pm, no sleep-ins at all, as there’s a separate waking nights team
Strong in-house and external training, including progression to higher-level qualifications
Employee of the Month award (£50) and Employee of the Year award (£500)
Reward Gateway and Edenred discounts and perks
Access to counselling and wellbeing support
Free eye test support with Specsavers
Company events and a genuinely friendly team culture
Why this role stands out
Outstanding-rated home with long-term, settled placements; you’re walking into a stable, child-focused environment
No sleep-ins, extremely unusual in children’s residential and a big plus for work–life balance
Real LD practice, communication, sensory work and structured routines, not just “care on paper”
Strong staffing levels; 2:1 support with four staff on in the day
Development built in; clear training pathways and support if you want to step up in future
If you’re a Residential Support Worker who enjoys meaningful LD work, wants a stable home, and likes the idea of a 3 on / 3 off rota with no sleep-ins, this is worth a proper look.
