MANAGER
Young People’s Supported Accommodation Service (16–24)
Location: WS9 Aldridge, West Midlands
Salary: up to £45,000 per year plus bonus and benefits
The service and why this role matters
This is a high impact role in a specialist 16 to 24 service that supports some of the most complex young people in the country. Many have lived through neglect, abuse and trauma. Risks can include self harm, going missing and significant mental health needs, including suicidal thoughts.
The organisation has built its whole model around that reality. Across a growing West Midlands portfolio of homes for 16 to 24 year olds, they focus on transitional care and preventing hospital admissions, with strong feedback from commissioners on outcomes for high risk young people.
You are not left to carry that alone. Managers here are backed by a central team that takes on bookings, rotas, compliance and finance. That means you can put your energy where it counts most: leading your team, knowing your young people and driving quality in the home, day in, day out.
There is also a planned journey from CQC regulation into Ofsted regulation, supported by an experienced operations lead. For the right person, that is a genuine development step, not just a line on a job description. You get to lead a service through a proper transition and broaden your regulatory experience at the same time.
What you will be doing
You will be the Registered Manager for a CQC regulated young people’s service in Aldridge, responsible for the day to day running of the home and the quality of care.
Key parts of the role include:
Leading a staff team to deliver consistently high standards of care and support for young people aged 16 to 24 with complex needs
Making sure each young person has a clear, person centred care and support plan that reflects their risks, routines, education, health and future goals
Overseeing robust risk management, including MCA and DoLS practice, incident learning and CQC notifications
Completing and quality checking PRIs and referral information, and contributing to assessment and admission decisions for new young people
Providing regular supervision, appraisal and day to day guidance to seniors and support staff, and building a culture of learning, reflection and accountability
Working closely with commissioners, social workers, clinicians and other professionals to keep packages stable and outcomes on track
Taking ownership of audits, quality monitoring and action plans linked to CQC KLOEs and internal governance
Keeping a close eye on the environment of the home, making sure the building, furnishings and equipment are safe, welcoming and well maintained
Managing local budgets and financial records in line with company expectations
Being a visible presence in the home, leading from the front on shifts when needed and taking the lead in any complex or urgent situations
What they are looking for
The service is looking for a manager who is confident with regulations and back office practice, and who also genuinely cares about the journey each young person is on.
You will need:
Experience in a management or deputy management role in a residential or supported living setting
Strong track record of supervising staff and leading teams in care services
Experience of working with young people or adults with complex needs such as mental health difficulties, behaviours that challenge and histories of trauma
Solid understanding of CQC requirements, KLOEs, MCA 2005, capacity assessments, DoLS and notifications
Confidence with things like policies and procedures, investigations, referral assessments and multi agency meetings
Level 5 in Leadership and Management for Health and Social Care or Residential Childcare or Level 3 in a relevant area, plus strong experience, with a clear commitment to completing Level 5. Support for this is available for the right person.
A straightforward communication style and the confidence to work closely with an operations team, RI and external professionals
If you are coming from adult services and are open to changing age group, that can work very well here. The team understands how to support managers to transfer their skills into the 16 to 24 space, while you learn the specifics around this cohort and their pathways.
What you will get in return
Alongside a competitive salary and bonus structure in line with similar Registered Manager posts in the region, you can expect:
A strong central team handling rotas, bookings, compliance and finance, so you can focus on quality and outcomes
A growing group of homes, giving you future progression options into multi site leadership, RI or operations roles
Support with Level 5 and ongoing professional development
Regular contact and support from an experienced operations lead, including during the planned move from CQC to Ofsted regulation
Well resourced staffing levels, designed around high risk young people, including DoLS and intensive, therapeutic support where needed
A wider peer network of managers across the West Midlands who are working with similar levels of complexity
How to apply
If you are an experienced Registered Manager, or a strong Deputy ready for that next step, and you want to run a service where complexity is matched with proper backing, this is worth a conversation.
Apply with your CV, highlighting:
Your experience managing or deputising in CQC regulated or residential services
Any work with young people or adults with complex needs and risk
