MANAGER
Young People’s Supported Accommodation Service (16 to 24yrs)
Location: Lozells B19, Birmingham
Salary: up to £45,000 per year plus performance bonus
The service and why this role matters
This is a leadership role in a specialist service supporting young people aged 16 to 24 who have lived through significant trauma, adversity and instability. Many are navigating serious mental health challenges, risks of going missing, and the long tail of abuse or neglect in early life.
This isn’t a service that shies away from complexity. It’s built for it. The wider organisation operates a network of highly specialised services across the Midlands, designed to keep young people out of hospital, stabilise crisis cycles and build safe futures into adulthood.
In Lozells, the programme is particularly rooted in community inclusion and connection. The aim isn’t just holding risk; it’s giving each young person a sense of belonging, contribution and maturity as they step toward independence.
You’re backed by a central operations structure in quality, bookings, compliance, finance and clinical liaison. You’re never managing risk in isolation. That frees you to lead your team, know your young people properly and keep standards high.
There is also a planned transition from CQC regulation into Ofsted regulation, guided by an experienced operations lead. That’s a genuine career-building opportunity and a chance to broaden your regulatory portfolio.
What you’ll be responsible for
Taking responsibility as Registered Manager for the home, quality of service and the lived experience of each young person
Leading staff with clarity and purpose, setting a tone that is professional, relational and accountable
Making sure every young person has a meaningful, person centred support plan that reflects their risks, their strengths and their goals
Overseeing all regulatory functions including notifications, risk assessments, MCA and DoLS compliance
Handling PRIs, referrals, and admissions confidently and thoughtfully
Providing routine supervision and coaching for staff, helping them grow while holding high expectations
Working directly with commissioners, social workers, police, safeguarding teams and health professionals
Applying strong governance and quality frameworks and completing audits and improvement plans
Managing budgets sensitively in line with service priorities
Maintaining a safe, welcoming environment that feels like a place of dignity and growth
The kind of manager who will thrive here
Someone with senior experience in residential or supported living
Strong leadership and people management skills
A confident grasp of regulatory frameworks and operational responsibilities
Experience supporting young people or adults with complex emotional or mental health needs
A qualification at Level 5 in Leadership and Management, or
Level 3 plus strong evidence of capacity, experience and readiness to complete Level 5 with support
Able to speak clearly and honestly, not hide behind paperwork or corporate language
Comfortable learning, adapting and owning decisions
Managers from adult services can translate exceptionally well into this environment if they bring strong fundamentals and a willingness to understand the developmental needs of this age group.
What you’ll gain
Support from a highly developed central function for compliance, scheduling, HR and operational delivery
Structured progression pathways across multiple services in the region
Personal development backed by real investment
A move from CQC into Ofsted regulation that will expand your skillset and value
An organisation that genuinely invests in staffing models built for high complexity, not minimum cover
A network of peer managers across the West Midlands working with similar challenges and similar expectations
