Senior Residential Support Worker

Children’s Residential Home - Learning Disabilities
Heanor, Derbyshire (DE75)
£27,840 to £29,760 base + approx. £6,600 in sleeps (£14.50 to £15.50 per hour + £55 sleep-ins)
1 on / 2 off rota | Full-time, permanent

You’ll be joining a five-bed children’s home supporting young people with learning disabilities, autism and communication differences. Two young people are already settled, the routines make sense, and the team around them is experienced, stable and proud of the work they do. There’s also a strong Deputy who knows the home inside-out, making your job much more about leadership than firefighting.

Behind it all is a family-run, values-led organisation where decisions are quick, leaders stay present, and the Responsible Individual lives locally. They’re practical, supportive and genuinely invested in their teams, and there are plans to open additional LD homes once this one is fully embedded so progression is very real here.

What you’ll be doing

  • Leading shifts with structure and warmth, including sleep-ins

  • Guiding the staff team on the floor, offering steady mentoring and coaching

  • Supporting children using communication tools, sensory strategies and routines that help them feel understood

  • Contributing to care plans, risk assessments, key work and daily records

  • Working 1 on / 2 off (7.30am start, sleep-in, finishing at 8am after handover)

  • Supporting personal care in a respectful, dignified way

  • Helping children access the community, hobbies, sensory activities and daily life

  • Keeping the home organised, child-centred and ready for visits at any time

  • Working closely with the Deputy and Registered Manager to keep practice joined-up

What you’ll bring

  • Level 3 Residential Childcare or Level 4 CYPFP (or equivalent)

  • Strong experience within children’s residential LD, ASC, SEMH or EBD settings

  • Confidence supporting communication differences and sensory needs

  • Natural leadership on shift; grounded, patient and thoughtful

  • Clear written work and solid judgement

  • Full UK driving licence

Pay, rota and perks

  • £27,840 to £29,760 base salary

  • Approx. £6,600 per year from sleeps (£55 per night)

  • Hourly rate £14.50–£15.50 depending on experience/qualification

  • 1 on / 2 off rota with sleep-ins (7:30am start, 8am handover finish)

  • Overtime paid at £15.75–£16.75 per hour

  • Clear training pathways incl. Level 4 and Level 5 progression

  • Strong support from experienced leaders who stay hands-on

  • LD-focused training: PBS, autism awareness, communication tools

  • Wellbeing support, discounts, team recognition and a positive, relational culture

Why this home stands out

  • A registered, settled home; not a start-up and not a crisis setting

  • Two young people already placed long-term and thriving

  • A well-staffed model with strong ratios

  • A provider that genuinely prides itself on LD practice, communication and sensory-informed care

  • Family-run, not corporate

  • A future pathway into senior roles as the LD service expands
