The Home

A two bed children’s home supporting young people aged 12 to 17.

Small homes always feel different. Anyone who has worked in residential childcare knows that. When the house is smaller, the relationships tend to run deeper. Staff know the young people properly. Their routines, their interests, the things that help them reset after a difficult day.

The focus is consistent adults, clear expectations and a house that feels lived in rather than managed. School attendance matters. Direct work matters. Getting out into the community matters. Sometimes that means cooking together, sometimes it’s football after school, sometimes it’s simply sitting with a young person while they talk things through.

The team work with a therapeutic approach supported by training, reflective supervision and clinical guidance. Staff are encouraged to think about behaviour, attachment and trauma, and to keep developing their practice over time.

The Role

As a Senior Residential Support Worker, you’ll lead shifts and help guide the practice within the home.

You’ll still be very much part of the daily life of the house. School runs in the morning. Cooking meals. Supporting activities. Helping young people work through big emotions and everyday situations.

Alongside that, you’ll support the wider team and help the home stay organised, safe and welcoming.

Day to day this includes:

  • Leading shifts and coordinating handovers

  • Supporting Residential Support Workers across the shift

  • Helping newer staff build confidence and develop their practice

  • Contributing to care plans, behaviour strategies and risk assessments

  • Supporting education attendance and appointments

  • Encouraging hobbies, interests and community activities

  • Completing clear recording and contributing to reports

  • Working with social workers, education staff and therapists

  • Helping maintain a warm and welcoming home environment

Residential care works best when the adults around the young person work together. Communication across the team is important here, and Senior staff help keep everyone connected.

Many Seniors in this organisation later progress into Deputy Manager and Registered Manager roles, the pathway is genuinely there if you want it.

What You’ll Bring

  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) or at least 50 percent complete

  • Minimum 12 months experience in a children’s residential home

  • Experience supporting or leading shifts

  • Confident written recording and professional communication

  • A balanced approach to boundaries, structure and care

  • Full UK manual driving licence

  • Experience supporting young people with emotional and behavioural needs is helpful, although attitude and approach often matter just as much.

People who do well here tend to be thoughtful, steady in their approach and interested in developing their practice over time.
