SUPPORT WORKER
Senior Residential Support Worker - Residential Children’s Home
Location Leyland (PR26)
Salary £14 to £16 per hour + £60 per sleep
Contract Full-time, permanent
Rota 2 on / 4 off
There’s something special about joining a home right at the start.
You’re there when the doors open, the first young people move in, and the routines are still being shaped. Your ideas actually influence how the place runs, how it feels and how the team work together.
This role is exactly that.
You’ll be the Senior Residential Support Worker in a brand-new children’s home in Leyland, part of a small and growing North West provider that already runs other homes and has a strong focus on nurturing, consistent care for young people with complex needs. Their whole model is about creating safe, compassionate environments where children can grow in confidence and emotional security.
About the home and provider
New children’s home in Leyland (planning set for a small, 3-bed home for young people with EBD needs)
Part of a small group of homes with a strong focus on nurturing, structured care
Young people aged roughly 8–17 with complex backgrounds and individual support plans
Values-led approach: consistency, emotional warmth, strong boundaries and genuine belief in each young person’s potential
You’re joining with the benefit of an organisation that already knows how to run children’s homes, but with all the fresh energy that comes from opening a new one.
What you’ll be doing
Leading shifts in a children’s residential home and setting a clear, child-focused tone
Supporting young people day to day: routines, school, appointments, activities and those everyday conversations that build trust
Providing emotional support using trauma-informed and attachment-aware practice
Keyworking: planning and holding meaningful sessions that link to each young person’s goals
Recording and report writing that actually tells the story of what’s happening for the child
Liaising with social workers, education staff and other professionals to keep plans moving in the right direction
Supporting newer staff, offering guidance on shift and helping build a confident, reliable team
This is a hands-on Senior role, ideal for someone who enjoys leading from the front, being present on the floor and thinking a few steps ahead.
Pay, rota and benefits
£14 to £16 per hour, depending on experience
£60 per sleep
2 on / 4 off rota (popular pattern for work–life balance)
Free meals on shift
Free parking
Casual dress
Company pension and staff referral scheme
Ongoing training and on-the-job development focused on residential childcare practice
The set-up is designed so you can bring good energy into the home and still have space for family life and your own commitments.
Who this suits
At least 12 months’ experience working in a children’s home at Senior, Shift Leader or Team Leader level
Confident leading a team on shift and making decisions in line with care plans and policies
Strong understanding of trauma, attachment and behaviour linked to unmet need
Comfortable with recording, report writing and multi-agency working
Someone who enjoys shaping culture, supporting colleagues and modelling good practice
Ideally you’ll hold, or be working towards, a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) and be genuinely interested in continuing your learning as the home develops.
Progression
This isn’t a role where you stand still.
The provider has a clear route for people who want to grow:
Senior Residential Support Worker
Deputy Manager
Registered Manager
As more homes open and services expand, they prefer to promote people who know the young people, understand the culture and have already shown strong leadership on shift.
