SENIOR RESIDENTIAL
SUPPORT WORKER
Senior Residential Support Worker (Children’s Residential Care, EBD/SEMH)
Location: Stoke-on-Trent (ST1)
Full-time | Permanent | 1 on / 2 off + sleep-ins
£15.50 to £16.50 per hour + £65 per sleep-in
(Realistic earnings £37,560 to £39.672 with sleeps)
The Role
As a Senior Residential Support Worker, you’re leading the shift from the front.
You’ll run handovers that actually help the next person, guide the team without over-talking it, and keep things predictable for the young people in your care.
You’ll notice the small changes early. Mood, behaviour, engagement… the things that matter. There’s key work, education support, appointments, life skills, getting young people into the community. But more than that, you’ll shape how the home feels on a day-to-day basis.
You’ll also support newer staff. After a difficult moment, you’ll help them reflect, reset and improve for the next shift. It’s practical, not textbook.
Recording is part of the role too, and it’s done well here; clear, useful, purposeful.
What You Will Need
You’ve got at least 2 years’ experience in children’s residential care and you’ve led shifts before.
Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) is in place.
You’re confident communicating with young people, colleagues and professionals. Your written work is clear and helps others do their job properly.
You’re comfortable driving, whether that’s school runs, appointments or getting out into the community.
Why People Stay Here
You’re not just another member of staff on rota, you’re someone the young people recognise and build trust with over time.
There’s proper support on shift, reflective supervision that actually gives you space to think, clinical input when needed and leadership that’s visible and involved.
And there’s a clear next step, if you’re aiming for Deputy Manager, you’ll know what that looks like and how to get there.
What’s on Offer
£15.50 to £16.50 per hour depending on experience
£65 per sleep-in, typically around 10 per month
1 on / 2 off rota, giving you proper time away from work
28 days annual leave including bank holidays
Pension
Paid, in-person training that builds on what you already know
Regular reflective supervision and wellbeing support
A supportive senior team who are present
A Final Thought
This is a role where you can actually see the impact of how you work.
Not just in outcomes on paper, but in how a young person settles, engages, and starts to trust the people around them. That doesn’t happen by accident… it comes from consistency, good leadership on shift, and a team that are aligned.
If that’s the kind of environment you’re looking for, it’s worth a conversation.
