Westhoughton, Bolton (BL5)
£15.00 to £16.00 per hour + £60 per sleep-in | OTE £38,400 to £40,480pa
2 on / 4 off rota

There comes a point in residential childcare where you start to see beyond your own shift and begin to take notice of the wider picture, how the home runs, how the team works together, and what the young people are experiencing day to day. If you’re at that stage, this role will likely feel like a natural next step rather than a jump.

This is a 4 bed, therapeutic children’s home supporting 3 young people with emotional and behavioural needs. The environment is settled, relationships are already in place, and there’s a clear focus on helping young people move forward in a way that is realistic and lasting. There is also clinical input being introduced into the home, which strengthens the overall approach and means you are part of something that feels joined up rather than working in isolation.

What the role involves

  • Leading shifts and supporting the day-to-day running of the home

  • Guiding and supporting staff practice on shift

  • Working directly with young people around routines, education and independence

  • Maintaining high-quality, clear and professional records

  • Supporting care plans, risk assessments and behaviour support plans

  • Liaising with families, social workers and other professionals

  • Promoting a safe, structured and nurturing home environment

What you’ll need

  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare, Level 4 CYPF Practitioner, or Level 3 Children & Young People’s Workforce (essential)

  • Experience within children’s residential care

  • Confidence leading shifts or stepping into a senior position

  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, trauma and behaviour in practice

  • Ability to build positive relationships while maintaining clear boundaries

  • Full UK driving licence

Why this role stands out

  • Strong home setting with three young people, allowing for more focused support

  • Settled team and consistent environment

  • Therapeutic, trauma-informed approach with clinical input

  • Genuine opportunity for progression and development

  • 2 on / 4 off rota offering a strong work-life balance

  • Competitive hourly rate with sleep-in payments

The role centres around leading shifts and supporting the team to maintain good, consistent practice while continuing to work closely with the young people. It’s not about overcomplicating things, it’s about doing the job properly, with intention, and being part of a home where that approach is shared.

If you are already stepping up in your current role, or feel ready to move into a position where you can take on more responsibility in the right environment, this is worth exploring further.
